Ekolsunds Slott
Ekolsund Castle is the only privately owned former royal castle in Sweden. It is located about 60 km from Stockholm in Ekolsunds, on the shores of Mälaren. The castle has about 350 hectares of forest and 50 hectares of fields. The owner of the castle, successful entepeneaur Raija Ohlin, has been restoring the buildings since 2003. In addition to the two castle buildings, which cover 5,600 square metres, there is also the high-quality Wärdshus restaurant. The castle’s outbuilding will house the Mackmyra whisky cellar and tasting room. The historic royal “party castle”, made famous by King Gustav III, has also been used as a location for several films and TV series. Its versatile facilities are suitable for both small and large events. The castle grounds are also used for hunting.
